Marriage Certificate Holder: The Complete Guide

This page sets out the whole picture of a MyO! marriage certificate holder: what it is, what can be personalised, whether the interior fits a Hong Kong certificate, how to care for and store it, and which occasions it suits. Each of those has a page of its own, linked as we go; if you only want the conclusion, jump to the checklist at the end.
What the product is
A marriage certificate is a large, few-sheets document meant to be kept. With nothing rigid behind it, it settles into a folded shape inside a drawer within a year or two. The holder gives it a fixed place, and stamps the couple’s names and wedding date on the cover, so it becomes the sleeve for that particular certificate rather than a general-purpose container.

Colours and designs: twelve combinations
Two colours across six designs give twelve combinations. The material is not a separate choice on top of that; it follows the colour: beige is linen, blue is frosted pearl.
| Colour | Hex | Material | Feel and the style it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beige | #F6DBA6 | Linen | A natural matte texture and a warm hand, suiting a minimal style |
| Blue | #0A477E | Frosted pearl | A fine pearl sheen and a more luxurious look |
The six designs can be looked at one by one. All 12 combinations share the same interior size, so comparing them comes down to looks and feel, with no trade-off in sizing or price. For how the two materials differ in texture, hand and care, see linen and frosted pearl materials.
Interior size: it takes a Hong Kong certificate
A Hong Kong marriage certificate is generally treated as A4 (210 x 297 mm), and the interior of every design is built to that size. A4 is practice rather than law; as measured, the certificate comes to about 209mm x 298mm, which is very close to A4 but not exactly the same, so the measured figure is the more reliable one to plan against.
The interior is slightly larger than standard A4, so a certificate with the presentation folder you are handed at the registry also fits flat — no folded corner, and no separate sleeve to buy. The outer shell measures 30.7cm x 22.6cm. A holder that is too large lets the certificate slide inside; one that is too small forces the certificate to fold, which can damage it.
If the document in your hands measures differently from that, or already has a thicker folder on it, measuring the real thing once before ordering is the quickest step. The full specifications and how other sizes on the market compare are in certificate holder size guide.
Stamping: two fields, nothing more
The cover carries two stamping fields, one for the couple’s names and one for the wedding date. Two fields means the content is fixed: names plus a date, with no room to add extra lines. Two things are worth settling before ordering — whether the names sit side by side, and which date format you want. If either name is long, saying so early avoids the type being compressed.
Stamping does not ink the text onto the surface: heat and pressure press a metal foil into the cover material, so it becomes part of the cover rather than a layer on top, which is why foil outlasts surface ink printing in low-friction storage. The designer pairs the typefaces — a calligraphic face for Chinese and a serif for English, each chosen to suit its own tradition, both set to the same optical centre so the two lines do not crowd each other. Either language can be stamped, and which face is used is settled at the proof stage.
How the process works and what the price covers is set out in hot foil stamping and pricing.
Customising comes down to four decisions
- Choose a design: 6 designs, which set the pattern on the cover.
- Choose a colour: 2 colours, beige and blue.
- Stamp names and date: give us the couple’s names and the wedding date, which go into the cover’s two stamping fields.
- Receive the holder: production begins once the design proof is confirmed, and the finished pair is sent out.
All four steps are set out in how customising a holder works. Two pages in the same group go into the details: personalisation options explained, and bilingual marriage certificates.
Price: HK$388 each
Each holder is HK$388, the same across all 12 combinations, and that price already includes printing the couple’s names and wedding date — the stamping step is not charged on top. There is no minimum quantity: you can order a single holder or a pair, one for each partner.
Payment is by FPS, PayMe, bank transfer or PayPal, which covers both Hong Kong and overseas customers. Local post within Hong Kong is free, and SF Express is available pay-on-delivery with the charge separate from the product price; for overseas shipping, ask us for a quote. We sell online only and have no shop, though a face-to-face handover can be arranged individually.
Lead time: 7-14 business days from the confirmed proof
Custom orders take about 7-14 business days depending on order volume, counted from the point the design proof is confirmed. If the wedding or registration date is already set, order with enough margin for the stamping time plus transit; if the wedding and the registration fall on different dates, work from the earlier one.
Every line of text is checked with you before the proof is approved. Once it is confirmed, production starts and the wording can no longer be changed. If the date is tight, raise it early and we will see what the current order volume allows.
Wedding occasions
A holder sits close to two moments: the date of the registration and ceremony, and every anniversary after it. The first is where the gift starts; the second is why the same gift keeps working.
- Picking the gift: wedding gift ideas
- What to spend: Hong Kong wedding gift budget
- How to present it: wedding gift etiquette
For reference, a Hong Kong wedding gift typically runs between HK$500 and 2,000 depending on how close you are to the couple. Each holder at HK$388 sits at the lower end of that range, and buying a pair stays easy to justify.
Anniversaries and milestones
A marriage certificate exists once per couple, while the anniversary comes round every year. With the names and the date already stamped on the cover there is nothing new to prepare each year to mark the same date — the one document, against every date worth marking.
- The general approach: anniversary gift ideas
- Marking the day itself: anniversary milestone gifts
- One for a partner: an anniversary gift for your wife
- The tenth and beyond: milestone anniversary gifts
Care and storage
Wipe the surface with a dry soft cloth; no cleaning agent is needed. If it does get wet, dry it thoroughly, or there is a risk of mould. Store it somewhere cool and dry, out of direct sunlight. A dust bag or a box keeps it from rubbing against other hard objects and from taking weight that would distort its shape.
The full daily routine is in caring for a certificate holder. Where to put it once it is away, and how to display it, is covered in storing and displaying the holder.
Ordering and delivery
Ordering runs: choose a design and colour, give us the names and wedding date, we confirm the design proof, the holders are stamped, then delivered. The enquiry button that stays with you on the page is the place to start, and we usually reply within 24 hours.
If a production fault leaves a quality problem — a printing error, or a size that does not match — we correct or remake it free of charge and re-stamp the cover as needed. Please contact us within 7 days of receiving it.
A few common questions
Will it take my certificate?
The standard size is built for a Hong Kong A4 certificate (210mm x 297mm). If you need a certificate size from another country or region, ask us and we will check whether it can be made to size.
Can I print a photo or a pattern?
The standard service is heat-transfer stamping of the names and the date. A particular pattern or a photo is assessed case by case, and we will come back to you.
Can I see a sample first?
We do not send out physical samples. The table above compares the two materials by texture and hand, which is usually enough to settle the colour first.
Can I order just one?
Yes. There is no minimum quantity, and one or two are both HK$388 each. Many customers order a pair, one for each partner, as a wedding keepsake.
The last check before ordering
- Size: measure the certificate you have, and count a thicker folder in.
- Stamped content: there are two fields, names and date, so settle the layout before ordering.
- Date: count 7-14 business days plus transit, working back from the wedding or registration date.
To check a design, a colour, or how the names and date will lay out on the combination you have in mind, use the enquiry button that stays with you on the page and we can start there.
