Marriage Certificate Holder Care Guide

This guide covers day-to-day care for your certificate holder. For how the two materials differ, see linen vs frosted pearl materials; before buying, certificate holder sizing explains what fits a Hong Kong marriage certificate.
Daily cleaning
Wipe the surface with a dry soft cloth. No cleaning agent is needed for everyday use. Dust and fingerprints both come off with a dry cloth, and the linen and frosted pearl options share the same cleaning method. Water washing is not recommended: most materials should not be soaked, and any moisture left behind risks mould.
Storage
Store the holder somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sunlight. Prolonged sun exposure causes fading. Keep it in a dust bag or box, away from hard objects that could rub the surface, and avoid heavy pressure so the shape holds.
Moisture and mould
Damp storage makes mould likely. Place a desiccant pack where you keep the holder. If mould appears, take the certificate out first, wipe the holder with a soft cloth, then move it to a drier spot or replace the desiccant, letting it dry fully before storing again.
What to avoid
Avoid water and chemical solvents. Solvents damage the pearl coating, so take particular care with the frosted pearl option. Linen tolerates slightly more, but cleaning agents and solvent-based wipes are best avoided on both.
How care differs by material
Daily cleaning and storage are the same for both; the difference is surface tolerance.
| Material | Daily cleaning | Particular care |
|---|---|---|
| Linen (beige) | Dry cloth wipe | Avoid water |
| Frosted pearl (blue) | Soft cloth wipe | Avoid scratching and chemical solvents |
Minor damage
Light scratches: wipe gently with a soft cloth — they usually recover. Fading: avoid further sun exposure; consider professional repair if it is obvious. Mould: follow the moisture section above, removing the certificate before cleaning the holder.
Neither material needs special equipment or consumables — one dry soft cloth is enough. For every design and choice in one place, see the complete guide to certificate holders.
