Anniversary Gifts Year 1 to 10: One Holder, Ten Years

The awkward habit of an anniversary gift is that it has to be remade every year. The first one is thoughtful; an eleventh of the same kind says less each time. One approach settles the whole thing at once: point the gift at the single document you have — the marriage certificate. What follows is how MyO! sets out, year by year, what the occasion means and what the gift can be.
Year one: the first full year behind you
The first anniversary is the first one after the wedding, and it is often the first gift the two of you choose together. The day is light, and because it is light, the wrong choice easily becomes another thing that is used once and pushed into a cupboard. Direction: pick something genuinely tied to “your own document” — you registered the marriage that year, and putting that certificate somewhere safe is itself the gift.
Years two to four: life acquires a routine
Between the second and the fourth, the wedding has faded and each of you has your own schedule and habits. These are the years most likely to turn into a repeated gift: the same kind of flowers or jewellery each year, in a new box, and the person receiving it knows it is the same idea again. Direction: tie the gift to a particular moment rather than to the fact that another year has passed.
Year five: the turn in the middle
The fifth anniversary is a midpoint. It is not as fresh as the first and not as formal as the tenth, but it is the first one you can look back from. Direction: this is the year for something that belongs to the two of you rather than to one of you — the person receiving it can tell clearly who it is meant for.
Years six to nine: the longer it goes, the harder a surprise is to win
Past the sixth, any gift that has to be thought up again gets more expensive — not in money, in effort. Direction: rather than a new problem every year, give the gift somewhere it can return to. Your marriage certificate is one of the few things that is there every year, never changes its content, and still carries weight.
Year ten: the milestone with a name of its own
The tenth is one of the few anniversaries with a traditional name attached to it, so the gift tends to be treated a little more formally. Direction: make it something kept for years rather than something used up on the day — after the tenth there is a long time still ahead.
Why a personalised certificate holder
There is one marriage certificate per couple, and the cover carries two heat-stamped fields: the couple names and the wedding date. Neither of those changes at any anniversary — names do not change, and neither does the wedding date. So nothing has to be prepared afresh each year to mark the same date: the holder bought in the first year still points at the same certificate in the tenth. Whoever opens it sees the same two lines every time, and those lines are theirs.
To narrow the choice down by occasion, anniversary gift ideas covers the general case; if the gift is going to your wife, anniversary gifts for your wife is written from the partner’s side. The dimensions, the stamping and the materials are set out in full in the marriage certificate holder guide.
Four things to confirm before ordering
- A4 fit: the interior is made to A4 (210 x 297 mm) and the space inside is slightly larger than standard A4, so a certificate with its presentation folder fits too. The measured Hong Kong certificate is around 209mm x 298mm — close to A4, but not identical — so measure the actual document first if yours already has a thicker folder.
- Two stamp fields: the cover has two fields and the content is fixed — names plus a date, with no room for extra lines. Saying so beforehand when either name is long avoids the type being squeezed.
- 7-14 business days: production starts once the design proof is confirmed, depending on order volume. To have it arrive on a particular anniversary, count 7-14 business days forward from the day you order, and add transit on top.
- HK$388 including printing: the price already covers the couple names and the wedding date being stamped. 2 colours (beige linen, blue frosted pearl) x 6 designs give 12 combinations at the same price, all with the same interior size.
Matching a combination to the year
The 12 combinations differ only in look and feel — they store a certificate identically, so the pairing can follow the person and the occasion rather than the year on the calendar. For something minimal, beige linen has a natural matte texture and a warm hand; for something more ornate, blue frosted pearl carries a fine pearl sheen. A preferred typeface can also be raised before ordering: the designer pairs a calligraphic Chinese face with a serif English one and centres both.
Enquiries
Use the enquiry button at the bottom of the page before ordering, and confirm at the same time that the names and date will lay out well on the design you have in mind. A single holder or a pair both work — and side by side, a pair is the same two lines appearing twice in the same occasion, which reads more naturally than any deliberate repetition.
